Christmas is the most important peak sales season for the global toy industry. Unlike other holidays, Christmas spending is primarily driven by gift-giving, family interaction and higher spending budgets.

For retailers, wholesalers and toy brands, Christmas is not just about selling products, but also about offering a ‘gift-worthy’ product experience—including appearance, packaging and usage scenarios.

In 2026, Christmas falls on 25 December, a traditional festival celebrated in the Western world and many other countries to mark the birth of Jesus. The evening of 24 December preceding this is known as Christmas Eve. The actual sales peak typically begins with Black Friday and continues through to mid- to late December. Businesses that prepare in advance are often better placed to capitalise on this surge in demand.

What do people typically do at Christmas?
Understanding consumer behaviour at Christmas helps to improve product selection.

Common activities include:
1. Exchanging gifts
2. Family gatherings
3. Decorating the home and the Christmas tree
4. Attending festive events or parties
5. Preparing small gifts (stocking fillers) for children

These scenarios all drive demand for Christmas toys, gift items and interactive products, particularly those suitable for different age groups.

Why is Christmas the peak season for toy sales?
The key difference between Christmas and other festivals lies in its strong ‘culture of gift-giving’.
The main driving factors include:
1. Higher average spend per transaction
2. A clear demand for ‘gift-worthy’ items
3. Family-led decision-making
4. A greater tendency to purchase gift sets or high-value products
For businesses, this means they can simultaneously offer both low-priced products to attract customers and mid-to-high-end gift items.

Top-selling toy categories for Christmas
When selecting products for Christmas, a well-balanced product range is crucial.

Educational and creative toys
Products such as art sets, DIY kits and jigsaw puzzles are more likely to be chosen by parents as gifts because they offer a certain ‘educational value’.

DIY Beaded Christmas Designs: English Alphabet Bracelets

Construction Toys and STEM Toys
Building blocks, magnetic toys and similar items combine entertainment with learning, and have been a popular and steadily growing category in recent years.
For parents, these products not only offer entertainment value but also encourage children to engage in hands-on activities and be creative.

Products suitable for the Christmas sales season include: building block toys, DIY creative kits and so on.

These toys are suitable for children of all ages and can easily be updated with different themes and packaging.

Remote-controlled toys
Remote-controlled toys have always been a popular category in the Christmas gift market, and are particularly suitable for older children.

Compared to ordinary toys, remote-controlled products offer a more immersive interactive experience—such as driving, racing and simulation—and are therefore more likely to be chosen as ‘big-ticket items’ for Christmas.
Examples include: remote-controlled racing cars, remote-controlled construction vehicles, remote-controlled diggers, and so on.
These products are typically highly visually appealing and are well-suited for prominent display by retailers during the Christmas season.

Stress-relief toys and small gifts
In recent years, stress-relief toys have gradually become a popular choice for festive gifts.

Thanks to their affordable prices, compact size and portability, these products are ideal as stocking fillers, party favours and small promotional items.

Common products include Pop It-style toys, squishy toys, Fidget Cubes, Wacky Tracks and so on.

In addition to the children’s market, some stress-relief toys are also popular amongst teenagers and adult consumers, giving them a broader consumer base.

The Importance of Packaging at Christmas
Compared to other festivals, Christmas places greater demands on ‘packaging’.

Products with the following characteristics are easier to sell:
1. Come in their own gift boxes (gift-ready)
2. Feature festive designs (red and green colour schemes, snowflakes, Christmas motifs)
3. Are convenient for gift-giving or display

For brands and retailers, bespoke packaging can significantly enhance a product’s added value and differentiation.

When Should You Start Preparing for Christmas Products?
Timing is crucial for Christmas sales.

Although the holiday falls on 25 December, most businesses begin preparations 3–6 months in advance, including:
Product development
Packaging design
Mass production
International shipping

If preparations are left too late, this may result in:
Supply shortages
Rising costs
Missing the sales window

How to Choose a Reliable Toy Supplier?
During the Christmas peak season, large-volume orders and tight deadlines make supplier capacity particularly critical.

A reliable toy manufacturer should typically possess:
Large-scale production capacity
Consistent product quality
Capability to provide customised packaging and brand support
Ability to deliver on time

For brand owners and distributors, a stable supply chain can effectively mitigate risks and ensure a steady sales flow.

Summary
Christmas remains one of the most important sales opportunities in the toy industry.

From soft toys and educational products to remote-controlled toys and small gifts, a well-balanced product portfolio can help businesses cater to diverse consumer needs.

For retailers and brands, planning ahead and selecting reliable suppliers are key to achieving sales growth.
